Dear Members and Friends of the Cathedral,

Greetings from Iowa City, IA, where I’m taking part in the annual meeting of the Federation of Diocesan Liturgical Commissions. I gave an address yesterday about the Word of God as it is used in the Church today. I’ll post the whole talk on my website over the weekend if you want to read it.

My thanks to all who have pledged to the Annual Catholic Appeal and the annual cathedral parish appeal. For the diocese, so far we’ve received $8,825 in cash and pledges toward our $24,697 goal, and 22 donors toward our goal of 397. Haven’t pledged yet? Please go here to support the diocese. This Saturday at 11 a.m., bring your animals and join me on the lawn of our neighbors, Grace and Holy Trinity Cathedral, where Dean Andy Keyse and I will bless animals in honor of St. Francis.

I will then celebrate reconciliation and Mass on Saturday. Fr. Ken will preside Sunday morning and baptize the new child of parishioners Alden and Kirsten Willdermood. Congratulations!  Father Dave Holloway will preside Sunday night.

I leave early Sunday morning for a weeklong meeting of the International Commission on English in the Liturgy (ICEL) in Washington DC. I take notes for the commission and write a report before coming home. I’ve been doing this now for 20 years.

P. S.  Today we commemorate St. Therese of Lisieux, the Little Flower. I grew up in Kansas City as a member of the church dedicated to her at 58th and Euclid. Here’s the shrine inside.
